arete Australia’s ANSTO Nano Building project has been nominated for the 2025 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings ($5M–$10M) category.
The nomination celebrates the successful delivery of a highly specialised facility designed to support nanometre-scale research within ANSTO’s synchrotron campus in Clayton. From concept to completion, the project demanded absolute precision, innovation and collaboration at every stage.
The facility was purpose-built to meet the most stringent performance requirements, including extreme vibration isolation, precise temperature and humidity control, radiation shielding and ISO8 clean room standards. arete delivered a technically advanced environment tailored to the needs of leading scientists conducting experimental research at the frontier of discovery.
Key features included a fully structurally isolated End Station, more than 100 deep screw piles, a custom-built services bridge and a complex in-situ tunnel system. Each element was carefully engineered to maintain the integrity of the sensitive research taking place within.
Beyond completion, the arete team has continued to work closely with ANSTO throughout the commissioning phase, fine-tuning performance as specialist equipment is brought online. This partnership approach demonstrates arete’s commitment to building not just world-class spaces, but enduring relationships that empower the people who use them.
The ANSTO Nano Building sets a new benchmark for complex scientific infrastructure in Australia, showcasing the capability and dedication of the arete team.
