arete Australia has been appointed to deliver a state-of-the-art Microcombs Research Facility, transforming existing space into a hub of scientific innovation. The project involves the demolition and refurbishment of the area to create six specialty research laboratories and a dedicated technical workspace.
The Centre is designed to advance the study of optical frequency microcombs, thousands of highly pure light signals precisely spaced across the optical spectrum. This breakthrough technology has the potential to generate significant societal transformations, building upon recent discoveries in physics, materials science and nanofabrication.
Research conducted within the facility is expected to create new knowledge across multiple disciplines including astronomy, spectroscopy, chemical sensing and precision measurement. Anticipated outcomes include the development of complete comb systems on a chip as small as a fingernail, each tailored to specific applications. These advances promise wide-ranging benefits, from imaging live cells to supporting autonomous vehicles, improving satellite communications and contributing to the search for exoplanets.
arete Australia is proud to be delivering this important project, which will provide researchers with the specialised laboratories and technical spaces they need to drive innovation and produce world-leading outcomes.
