arete Australia delivered the fitout of The Peter and Ruth McMullin Beacon, a new performance and event venue located on the top floor of Melbourne Recital Centre in Southbank.
The project transformed a previously underutilised space at the top of the iconic Melbourne Recital Centre building into an intimate new performance venue, providing a flexible setting for live music, cabaret, contemporary music, jazz, musical theatre and First Nations performances.
arete’s works included the fitout of the approximately 300m² performance and event space, incorporating a new bar and function area, commercial kitchen, amenities and supporting facilities.
With a focus on audience experience, catering operations, acoustics and the creation of an intimate performance environment, The Beacon provides Melbourne Recital Centre with a new way to connect artists and audiences.
The completed venue also features an artwork bringing Look Above to life within the space, with words written by Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin AO and music by Dr Lou Bennett AM.
