Downlands College in Toowoomba appointed arete to refurb their existing student dining and serving facilities. arete worked closely with Downlands and the appointed Architect Hiro Design to complete the project over the Christmas break of 2019 over a tight timeframe. The existing servery area of the kitchen was stripped back, including flooring, walls and equipment, making way for a more functional and inviting area. The dining area and entrance corridors both received a facelift with new vinyl flooring and equipment and the staff café area also received all new finishes, equipment and a new thoroughfare direct from the kitchen.
Special care was also required around the existing Tasmanian Oak timber wall panels, mouldings and doors as these are original to the building, dating back to the mid 1900’s.
Using both local and trusted subcontractors arete were able to ensure a fuss free project and secure a close relationship with the school. This close relationship between arete and the school allowed for transparent communication throughout the project with any minor delays or complications able to be easily resolved, keeping the project on track. The kitchen, dining and café facilities re-opened in the first week of Term 1 with both students and staff excited to use the new space.
