Following on from the success of the VSBA’s flagship Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership building in St Andrews Place, arete was awarded the $6 Million design and construct contract for the new VATL Geelong facility.
Part of the wider roll out of training academies throughout Victoria, the Geelong academy was the second facility to be undertaken and the first and largest of their regional facilities.
5a Little Ryrie Street was chosen as the site for the new Academy and was an existing Department of Education and Teaching Space which had previously been converted from a local police station.
It sat vacant for a long period of time. The scope for the project included the complete refurbishment of the site. The full strip out and demolition of the existing building leaving only the structure in place.
The arete team completed the removal of all external elements then reinstated the car park, external courtyard, landscaping and the like. The building saw new roofing, a new internal fitout including full services upgrades, façade, feature stair, lift and all finishes required to suit the Academies palate and feel.
