arete Australia continues partnership with BACOP

13th August, 2026

Since 2019, arete Australia has proudly supported the Balamu Community Outreach Program (BACOP) and its youth football program in Uganda.

What began with the donation of football kits has developed into an ongoing partnership supporting BACOP’s football academy and the young people who participate in its programs.

BACOP uses football as a way to bring children and young people together, while also providing education support, mentorship, leadership development and practical life skills.

The program works with communities surrounding the Mehta sugar plantations, where access to education and development opportunities can be limited.

Today, BACOP’s football academy has 60 children participating across three age groups, including 20 players in the Under-15 boys team, 15 players in the Under-13 girls team and 25 players in the Under-10 mixed team.

Alongside the football program, BACOP currently supports approximately 40 boys and girls through primary and secondary education, helping participants stay engaged in learning while developing confidence, discipline, teamwork and leadership through sport.

Seven years on, we are proud to continue supporting BACOP and the work being done to strengthen youth football, education and personal development in the local community in Wasawa, Uganda.
